Earthquake

Earthquakes and seismic activity pose a significant risk to railways operating in geologically active regions. Dangers arise not only from ground shaking increasing rolling stock derailment risks, but also from other resulting natural hazards earthquakes can cause, such as landslides, rockfalls, subsidence, sink holes and even structural failures.

Our Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology offers real-time detection of seismic activity across entire rail routes. By continuously monitoring for the ground vibrations from earthquakes, our system delivers crucial, near-instantaneous warnings, enabling operators to act and mitigate these challenging risks.

This application is under development. We welcome enquiries from infrastructure owners/maintainers for further information.
