Vehicle Intrusion

If a train strikes a road vehicle or debris from an accident on the track, a rail disaster can rapidly unfold. Whilst vehicle incursion risks at road / grade / level crossings are often well known, the situation elsewhere along much of the rail corridor is much less clear.

The continuing trends for larger, heavier, and greater acceleration cars and trucks means historic protection methods become less likely to contain vehicle collisions successfully. This leads to increased risk of accidental vehicle intrusion onto the railway and therefore, greater risk of a rail vehicle collision.

Sensonic Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) can be implemented to monitor for vehicle intrusion/impact along entire routes. A car crashing onto the track can be detected, located and alerted automatically in real-time providing vital warning time to operations teams to act.
